Duolingo: an incredible app

As I knew Duolingo from my friends I started learning french because I just like the lsnguage. Duolingo is quite helpful with its speaking exersices, listening exercises, writing ones, correcting your mistakes and more. It is really fun and not boring which is a bonus. Unlike other apps for learning languages there are quite a lot of choices to choose. There is also Music learning, maths learning and even chess. You can also add your friends and commit your own friend strike. Thr thing I dont like is that I am not confident to speak. If you want more advanced speaking you can get the MAX Duolingo and talk with Lilly(which i cant get bc it costd money). There is also a SUPER Duolingo which includes: no adds and unlimited energy. For the SUPER Duolingo family you can still get no adds, unlimited emergy and also add your friends or family(you pay only one for max 6 people). For the SUPER there is 7 days free trial and FAMILY 2 days.

Fun and useful, but extremely aggressive when it comes to pushing duolingo plus

I’ve used this app years ago and it’s always had the tendency to push it’s plus version, but I decided to get back into it today and it’s gotten to the point where it’s almost unusable thanks to the heart system. I was having a lot of fun with it until I ran out of hearts. It’s incredibly frustrating having to through a practice lesson and also a 20/30 second ad to get 2 hearts, because once you get to the point of having only 2 hearts you’re a miss click and an autocorrect error away from having to go through the lessons and ad all over again. So you’re technically forced to go premium or use gems, but considering the speed at which you gather them one refill is all I’ve got for the foreseeable future. I can disable autocorrect, I can be extremely careful, but having usage restricted by the amount of mistakes you make doesn’t make sense and is downright evil considering you’re trying to learn a new language. If you’re messing up too bad you can just start over and not have to pay for the plus version/go through a lesson+ad to get on with the lesson. I get that it’s a business, but this is definitely too much. It’s not like you aren’t blasted with long annoying ads throughout the app anyway I don’t think it’s necessary to make it so frustrating to use/unusable.

I’ve been using the app for about half a year and I can honestly say that I haven’t learned anything up to this point even when using the tips given by Duo. A lot of the “lessons” are just translate this, match this and this, hear this etc with a certain topic like the different “s” sounds in Greek… ok, I get the point of the lesson but it never explains why I should use on type of “s” over the other and to top it all of, before starting a “lesson” there is usually a tip button that usually explains the point of the “lesson”… “usually”. I am sure that there are many different examples like the “o” sounds but at that point in my “learning experience” I didn’t care enough to even bother looking for that “lesson”. To add salt to the injury, why do I want to compare myself with others just by how much I learn every day and by how much XP I earn. In my opinion the leaderboards are just something so unnecessary to the “learning”. There are still so many thing I can list about the app, but it’s just pointless wasting my time on such stupid stuff!To put it lightly, just buy a textbook and study the language you want to learn the tradition way and listen to the pronation and the way the natives of that language talk with the help of social media.
