4.8 is all about speed. Opal should open instantly, scroll smoothly, and stay out of your way — so this release went wide on performance, from cold launch to the Home and Stats screens, alongside more reliability and polish across the app.
New in 4.8
Speed and performance
• An across-the-board speed pass: faster cold launch, smoother Home and Stats scrolling, and broad work to cut lag and battery use
Blocking reliability
• Optimised Time Limits to be more reliable
• Saving a Rule no longer fails for small time periods
• Fixed a rare case where, just after you reached a time limit, you could briefly see the "recovery" screen instead of the normal block screen
• Starting a timer while an emergency pass is active now explains what will happen
Fixes and polish
• Improvements to home insight cards (more on the way!)
• Fixed an issue that could cause the gemstone to go missing on the Live Activity
• Fixed the editing sheet getting partly hidden while renaming a Session
New in 4.7
• More reliable background blocking — re-blocks after an unblock, scheduled Rule starts and stops, and time-limit blocks all happen without opening Opal
• Fixed a rare case where an already-expired time limit could lock you out again after midnight
• "Unblock All" from the Rule card now works during a block-all-except session, and no longer lifts an app held by a reached limit
• The unblock Live Activity now has a "Block Again" button
• The heads-up notification for time limits is back
• Sessions and timers can now run for multiple days, up to 14 days
• Fixed a bug where the waiting room could get stuck at 0
• Screen time reports no longer include Family Sharing members' usage
What's next, in priority order
• A stunning home screen — a better score (including screen time), gems, and recommendations
• Keep hardening background blocking so every Rule applies on time, every time, without opening Opal
• Making time limits clearer when you reach one, so the unblock option is never misleading
• Clearer setup so it's obvious what Opal does, what a Rule is, and how unblocking works
After this, we're excited to build much more — Family and School modes, Autofocus for intelligent, timely recommendations and interventions, more incredible timers, and more.
We read everything you send us, and it shaped this list directly. Thank you.

4.7 is all about one thing: blocking that fires exactly when it should, 100% of the time, even when Opal is closed. That's the promise of the product, and it's where most of our energy went.
New in 4.7
Blocking reliability
• More fixes to ensure scheduled blocking applies on time in the background. Re-blocks after an unblock ends, scheduled Rule starts and stops, and time-limit blocks all happen without opening Opal
• Opal now detects and repairs OS-level shield issues the old check couldn't see
• Fixed a rare case where an already-expired time limit could lock you out again after midnight
Unblocking
• Fixed a case where "Unblock All" from the Rule card did nothing during a block-all-except session
• "Unblock All" no longer wrongly lifts an app held by a reached time limit or a used-up open limit. Those stay blocked
• The unblock Live Activity now has a "Block Again" button
Limits and timers
• Brought back the halfway heads-up notification for time limits
• Sessions and timers can now run for multiple days, up to 14 days
• Fixed a case where a countdown could get stuck at 0, like the waiting room after reopening Opal
Fixes and polish
• Fixed the Adult Websites screens getting cut off on Plus-size iPhones
• Fixed a case where a paywall could appear when it shouldn't
• Screen time reports no longer include Family Sharing members' usage. Many users who had family sharing setup with their partner or kids experienced this issue, which will now be fixed
• Faster access to notification settings, a red dot for new support replies, and a smoother handoff to a human in support
New in 4.6
• Scheduled blocks and unblocks now apply reliably in the background, so you no longer have to open Opal for them to take effect
• Fixed blocking that misfired while your Rules were still reloading
• Tap your profile photo to change it
• Deleting your last active Rule now warns you before you remove your only protection
• "Reset Limit" now appears above "Pause Rule" on active limit Rules
• Cleaned up the App Unblocked notification, removed the "Pace yourself" line
What's next, in priority order
• A stunning home screen - better score (including screen time), gems, and recommendations.
• Keep hardening background blocking so every Rule applies on time, every time, without opening Opal
• Make timers stunning
• Making time limits clearer when you reach one, so the unblock option is never misleading
• Clearer onboarding so it's obvious what Opal does, what a Rule is, and how unblocking works
After this, we are super excited to build many exciting updates for the product, including Family and School modes, Autofocus to power intelligent timely recommendations and interventions, more incredible timers and more.
We read everything you send us, and it shaped this list directly. Thank you.

4.3.2 6 jul
Last time we shared a list of what we'd fix next, in priority order. This update ships the top items on that list, plus a round of fixes. Here's where everything stands, version by version.
We're building Opal for the people who rely on it today, and eventually for billions of people who want a better relationship with technology. That starts with making today's Opal rock-solid, and it means making new bets so Opal can work for more people.
New in 4.3.1
• Your daily screen time is back on the home screen. A new Screen Time card shows today's total and your most-used apps

- Increased the flexibility of App Limits by allowing blocking durations of up to 12 hours
- Fixed Focus Filters, these should now kick in more reliably
- Fixed an issue that caused you to occasionally get signed out

- Added new functionality to recover lost streaks in V4
Your feedback allows us to keep improving quickly, please reach out if you have any suggestions, feedback or if you feel something is missing.

We've received a huge amount of feedback on our major update, and I've been reading it all. Thank you.
What's been especially encouraging is how many people are loving Autofocus. We're seeing some of the strongest reactions we've had to a feature in a long time.
At the same time, we've also heard frustration from many longtime users. It's absolutely fair. The good news is we're moving fast. We've been shipping updates every few days, fixing issues, restoring workflows, and acting on your feedback as quickly as we can.
Our goal is to build a product that can help today's Opal users, but eventually also billions of people build a better relationship with technology. The excitement around Autofocus and the new direction gives us confidence we're building something better. The feedback from our longtime users is giving us real fuel to make it better, faster. We're grateful for both.
Thanks for sticking with us and helping us build the next chapter of Opal.
New since the major update 4.0
- App Uninstall Protection. Stop yourself from deleting Opal while you're in a block. Turn it on in Settings.
- Opal Labs, starting with Speedbump. Opt into experimental features, with a home card that shows when Speedbump is active.

A new Opal.
Opal has always worked when you set the rules. 4.0 adds something new: Opal can now read your day on its own: it learns when you sleep, when you focus, when you scroll. It steps in when it helps and stays out of the way the rest of the time.
Heads up, two things have moved:
• Blocks are now called Rules. Same feature, new name. You'll find everything in the My Apps tab,.
• Breaks are now called Unblock. You can unblock at any time from the My Apps tab.
What's new:
• Timer. One tap to focus for a set block of time, when you need to study or get in the zone.
• Opal Score. A daily reading on Focus, Sleep, and Rest.
• Sounds. A library of focus mixes and ambient tracks.
• New MileStones. Belts for attention, earned through real focus. New ones available.
• Autofocus. Intelligent nudges that keep you on track when you're distracted.
You asked, we built:
• Overlapping rules, so you can stack them.
• Always Allowed, so Opal never blocks your essentials like health, maps, or banking.
• Never Allowed, so you can set your own permanent restrictions.
• Single-app unblock, so you can open one app without breaking the rule.
• Digital Detox, longer timers for a few days at a time.
Now in 9 languages, including Simplified Chinese.
As always, share feedback through Settings, then Support. We read all of it. Let us know if any of your favourite features are missing, we removed some things but don't worry - they'll be back soon!
