Every function in Author is grounded in cognitive science, with the aim of augmenting thinking and lowering cognitive load: • Export with References automatically appended is automatic (citing is clear and uncomplicated). • To get to grips with longer documents you have not only an Outline but also an Overview at your disposal. To help you see the structure of your work at a glance, and to help you focus on what you feel each and every paragraph should say, you can Mark the text in a paragraph to let you skim quickly. The Marked text also appears in the Overview, giving you a clear thread of your work. If a paragraph does not have key text, this can help you decide if you should re-write it. Importantly, the marking is not included on export, it is there for you to help you write. • To free your thinking and see how it connects you can define your concepts and Map them out spatially, on the screen on your Mac and in the room on Vision Pro. • Themes support your eyes and your tasks. Dark for thinking, light for editing, for example. Further personalization is myriad. • Cuttings, Magic Margins, Inline Notes, Contracting text and more support giving you more space to think, less details to worry about. • AI, is there to support you, not supplant you. By design it never assumes it can think for you or learn for you.

This app, which I just discovered by accident, is fantastic. It does more with less, meaning I can write, and cite if I need to, without using bloatware (you know who I mean). And the author of this application is really good with documentation. I am looking forward to working with it, and I hope that it continues to be a well-thought-through application that doesn’t pander to every ridiculous request but stays slim and efficient. Highly recommended for serious writers and students (who are also serious)!

Intuitive, comprehensive and efficient

I've been working with this every day since purchasing. I have not found another app that comes close to this. Reader and Liquid are exceptional and back Author up to make it an excellent research tool. I'm sure it has flaws, and I remember thinking of one when I was working on a project. But I'm guessing it was my lack of familiarity with the app. I've since forgotten what it might have been. Thanks!TK

I've been working with this every day since purchasing. I have not found another app that comes close to this. Reader and Liquid are exceptional and back Author up to make it an excellent research tool. I'm sure it has flaws, and I remember thinking of one when I was working on a project. 5 star potential, but partner app holds it back

I was so excited about the potential of this as a researcher. When the PDF is opened properly, the copy/paste works beautifully. A video or update to the manual would be helpful to explain how to efficently add quotations, etc. The only downside is the issues with the partner app 'Reader' not opening all articles in the proper format to facilitate using the quotation feature meaningfully. If they could fix those issues, this app will be the mainstay of every graduate student. I will keep watching for updates to fix these issues (and will cross my fingers for wishlist items like an ipad version with icloud integration and EndNote integration). I added a star because the first version of this review did have more comments about Reader app, and because I'm impressed (and hopeful for the app) by the responsiveness of the developers to comment on the reviews.

Thank you for your extensive comments. The copy and past works from Reader to Author if the PDF in Reader has Visual-Meta attached. That can be automatically done if the PDF has a DOI, in which case Reader resolves it into Visual-Meta. This is definitely not ideal, we agree.Please don’t forget that Author is the writing tool and Reader is the reader, so the annotation comments are fair enough but they are not for Author of course. We are working on this. When do you do paste you say you don’t get quotation marks. Just click on the quoted text and you will get the Citation Dialog and here you can specify how you want the quoted text to appear, including quotation marks, italic and so on.
