Every function in Author is grounded in cognitive science, with the aim of augmenting thinking and lowering cognitive load:
• Export with References automatically appended is automatic (citing is clear and uncomplicated).
• To get to grips with longer documents you have not only an Outline but also an Overview at your disposal. To help you see the structure of your work at a glance, and to help you focus on what you feel each and every paragraph should say, you can Mark the text in a paragraph to let you skim quickly. The Marked text also appears in the Overview, giving you a clear thread of your work. If a paragraph does not have key text, this can help you decide if you should re-write it. Importantly, the marking is not included on export, it is there for you to help you write.
• To free your thinking and see how it connects you can define your concepts and Map them out spatially, on the screen on your Mac and in the room on Vision Pro.
• Themes support your eyes and your tasks. Dark for thinking, light for editing, for example. Further personalization is myriad.
• Cuttings, Magic Margins, Inline Notes, Contracting text and more support giving you more space to think, less details to worry about.
• AI, is there to support you, not supplant you. By design it never assumes it can think for you or learn for you.
I find Author really one of the fastest ways to publish to my wordpress sites. The best feature is linking and adding citiations is super fast. This is a minimalist app for quickly writing and publishing for me. Also check out the liquid flow app by the same publishers. Will make your life much easier.

The soothing background, the dynamic mode which helps in roughing out ideas and the the margin notes help a lot. Highly recommended. Would love to have two more things 1. Table Helper2. Integration with reference management software.

Not the light and dark mode. I can toggle that with preferences. I have an Author app version from earlier which allows me to select background colours. From range of colours. Is there a way to do that in the new app?

Thanks for the clarification. Author did not have an option for this, you must be thinking of another application. However, we may be adding this. What kinds of colours would you like?
