more Ocean currents and wave period come to the weather map, and you can now compare speed across rides.
Currents
A new Currents layer shows global ocean circulation from Copernicus Marine. Scrub or play the timeline to explore currents worldwide. Premium riders get the full forecast. This layer shows ocean circulation, not tides.
Wave period
A new Wave period layer colours swell period in seconds, with a tap readout. Switching between layers keeps the hour you were viewing.
Layers menu
Explore map layers with previews of each. The updated menu leaves more room for the map.
Weather map
Current and wave-period particles are brighter, with longer trails. Forecast frames load ahead of playback for smoother animation.
Compare rides
Activity details → Analysis lets you compare speed across sections of rides. Your saved recordings remain unchanged. Overlay full-session speed to compare rides and the gear used.
Spot pages
Spot pages now show the ocean gradient, with more evenly spaced actions, a clearer title, and an updated rating.
Recording
Phone recordings keep running while you navigate the app. Swiping back no longer leaves the recording screen by accident.
Rider badges
Rider badges now appear beside names in messages and feeds.
Today
The Today screen now features a daytime ocean gradient and a night sky.
Widgets and session maps
Forecast widgets now include a loading state and a retry option. Session maps better frame your track, including long rides. Map colours are scaled so a single GPS spike doesn’t turn the whole ride red.
1.6.6 15 Sept
Venturi 1.6.5 — What's New
Venturi comes to your Home Screen with new widgets, and the weather map has been reworked for clearer, faster forecasts.
iPhone widgets
Add Spot Forecast, Live Wind and Tide to your Home Screen, and Live Wind and Tide to your Lock Screen. A wider Daily Forecast widget charts hourly wind for the next 24 hours. Widgets follow your first Today favourite (or your home spot), use your units, and tap through to the full forecast. Requires iOS 17.
Weather map
Wind and swell colours are stronger and easier to read, flow trails are more visible, and the timeline is now a compact translucent bar you can scrub directly. Conditions update as you drag and playback runs six times faster. A Buoys toggle in Swell mode shows nearby swell buoys. If you go offline, the map stays put and tells you why.
Forecast days
Free riders now see 7 days of wind and premium riders 16, on every surface. Swell is 3 days everywhere. The Today card, spot Conditions, forecast sharing and the map timeline all agree.
Session speed colors
Session cards, session maps and the speed replay share one scale: red for slow sections, yellow for building speed, green for your fastest riding, relative to that session.
Achievements
Your own profile now shows an earned-only Achievements section. Goal cards display in your chosen units, the lifetime and per-session ten-mile goals have distinct names, and speed goals no longer credit an implausible GPS spike. If your sessions are set to Friends or Private, your standing card now explains why you are not on a challenge board.
Apple Watch
Starting a new ride after a saved one no longer lands on the old summary, and the Action button can start a fresh ride straight from it. The Crown scrolls the sport picker again, the SOS selector is easier to control, and the ride chooser, live stats, summary and settings screens have been tightened up.
Privacy
Changing who can see your sessions now also removes your earlier sessions from course leaderboards and spot pages.
Fixes
Pinching the map now works when your fingers start on a marker. Cancelling Add photo in the Gear Garage no longer freezes the app. Swiping right in a chat goes back on iPhone.
1.6.5 14 Sept
Venturi has been redesigned, and Progress has been rebuilt with new ways to see your riding.
A fresh look
Session cards, course pages, and your chats have all been redesigned. Chats now read like a familiar messages list, session analysis is easier to scan, and the tab bar and headings have been tidied throughout.
Progress, rebuilt
New interactive charts, a year view, and deeper insights — including a VMG scatter that shows how efficiently you ride, and a splash log of the moments you came down.
Better forecasts
Hourly air temperature, clearer daily wind outlook bars that explain what they show, every forecast day in the hourly timeline, and wave heights that are easier to read at a glance. Map, Wind and Swell are now separate buttons.
Maps and spots
Your recent routes and photo spots now appear in map highlights, course maps can be panned and zoomed, and browsing the map is faster and smoother.
Recording
Recording no longer asks for Always location — "While Using" is enough. Venturi also stops tracking in the background between rides, so it uses less battery.
Courses
Standing course records now appear on Achievements, and session maps show the start and finish gates a ride was matched against.
Safety
The SOS crown gesture on Apple Watch now works right after the watch wakes, and the first-run tutorial shows once.
Fixes
Labels are back under the figures on the live tracker, premium badges and profile checkmarks show correctly, posts load properly on rider profiles, and gear cards no longer clip a foil's area.

1.6.3 11 Sept
Private Sessions
-You can now keep a single session to yourself. Open the session and tap Make Private, next to Trim and Export.
-A private session disappears from your friends' feeds and from your profile as other riders see it — but it stays in your own Sessions tab and still counts toward your personal records. Hidden from everyone else, unchanged for you.
Fixes
- If Apple Watch dies, your session is not lost.
- The nearby spots list on the map could silently disappear. The map now notices and brings it back.
- Apple Watch sessions could fail to upload when a slow request held things up. Fixed.
- Feature updates now reach you without restarting the app.
1.6.2 6 Sept
React to sessions
- Sessions now take a real reaction, not just a thumbs-up. Pick an emoji from the row, or open the full picker for anything else.
- Emoji reactions work in direct messages and group chats too.
Notifications, rebuilt
- Every notification now shares one design. Previously the bell mixed two different row styles depending on where the notification came from; they're now one consistent list with avatars, unread markers, and relative times throughout.
Forecast and conditions
- A 1 HR / 3 HR toggle on the wind forecast, so you can zoom out on a long day.
- Marine data now comes from the spot's own body of water. Lake spots no longer show swell from a distant ocean.
- A timezone bug that hid conditions for 48 spots is fixed.
- Spot alerts now evaluate tide against the same feed the app displays, so an alert can't disagree with the forecast you're looking at.
- Weather overlays read more clearly: the basemap dims underneath them, data tiles render on the GPU where available, and wind arrows no longer clutter the wind and swell maps.
Sessions
- Export any session as a GPX file.
- Swell and wave conditions are attached to sessions as they're recorded and backfilled onto older ones.
- Phone recording uses far less memory in the background — long sessions are much less likely to be killed by the OS.
- Recorded speed can't dip below zero, and the summary's Done button works while the save is still finishing.
Courses
- Overlapping course start flags group together and fan out when tapped, so crowded spots stay readable.
- The course form scrolls clear of the keyboard, Save stays reachable while editing a route, and tapping the backdrop no longer discards a half-written course.
Your gear
- Community insights on the gear detail page show what conditions a piece of gear actually gets ridden in, wind against speed, and VMG.
- The gear picker keeps the order you set instead of resetting it.
Fixes and polish
- Profile, the friends list, and the spot page no longer hide content behind the floating tab bar.
- Setting a home spot stops removing it from your favourites.
- Favouriting a spot that's still loading no longer fails silently.
- Rider names on a spot's Recent Sessions are no longer cut off.
- Input fields scroll clear of the keyboard across the app.
- The alerts list is themed for dark mode.
- The map filters sheet scrolls all the way to swell conditions.
- Posting to the feed takes three taps instead of eight.
- A like can't be counted twice.
1.6.0 24 Aug
Downwinding! Find courses around the world, on-water guidance while you record
Follow your line in real time. The Record screen now has a live navigation view with a heading puck, your trailing track, and turn-by-turn guidance to the next gate — plus a clean two-tier stats banner. Choose 2D or 3D, let the camera follow you automatically, or zoom out for the full overview. Voice callouts give excellent guidance.
Courses on your wrist
Send any course straight to your Apple Watch or Garmin and get a big, easy-to-read arrow that follows the course line and always points you down the course. Courses now download to your phone too, so they're ready on the Record screen even without signal.
