I have had this amazing app for over a year now. I recently started canning and preserving my food again and this app has made it so easy to keep recipes that I want to try. Whether it be regular dinners or canning/preserving recipes I have it all at my fingertips because of this app! Please note though: I do still keep hard copy books because it is still technology and there is always a chance that this will go down at some point!

Please add the ability rate a recipe and it show visually as you look through recipes. I have a lot of recipes and it really helps if I can see which ones I’ve made and rated highly. Also I wish we could toggle between or have added a meal planner queue. I don’t always have recipes planned for a certain day depending on left overs or appetite. It’s nicer for me to have a Queue of recipes to reference that I’d like to try making soon or next.

This app is AMAZING! It’s so amazing and I love that most of the features are free and the subscription is just $1.99 a month :) please never change that, I just have one thing I’d like to suggest, I’d love if the grocery list had pre generated things you could add or when you add a recipe for it to give you the option to paste those into your grocery list instantly, AMAZING app

This app is beautifully built, practical, functional, and thoughtful. It is an app my wife and I use every day. It is so practical for meal planning, quickly accessing recipes, and meal prepping. The way that it is designed for all devices with iCloud sync is brilliant! This functionality makes it easy to meal prep with my wife and see recipes on multiple devices. Lastly, the AI quick add recipe features make it SO easy to add new recipes to our library and share them with friends/family (the subscription is worth it!). Couldn’t recommend this app enough!

I paid for this app to get the ability to have unlimited recipes and to be able to import PDFs and take pictures of recipes to import them. It was great for the first couple months and then they made updates and now those features are behind a monthly fee. Talk about a bait and switch. The app is nice, I like the setup of it, and it is very user-friendly. I just feel like I got swindled out of money just to have features that I purchased for a lifetime taken away.

I loved this app and previously rated at five stars. It seems that overtime, they have taken some features and put it behind a monthly paywall. Specifically, smart import where you can get a PDF or text file and have it imported correctly into Crouton has now been moved behind a paywall. I already paid once, if I recall, about $20 for lifetime premium. Now it seems that this useful smart import feature is hidden behind a two dollar a month fee. I do not use this app regularly enough to warrant $24 per year for this Smart import feature. I will probably switch to a different app unfortunately

I’m OCD about the presentation and formatting of my recipes and that is falling apart in Crouton as it doesn’t seem to support tiered bulleted lists, etc. so I’m having to find creative workarounds.Additionally iCloud sync does not work. I added pictures to my recipes from my phone (since I used it to take the pics) and I’ve pushed sync on my iPhone and iPad more times than I can count and the pictures and both devices are still not in sync with each other. The solution offered in the app is turn off a bunch of the features you pay for with iCloud+? So many other apps have figured this out without this - reach out to other developers and ask for help (respectfully).Update: please fix annoying formatting issues like when you try to select text within the steps it wants to drag the whole back of text versus selecting - what kind of UI decision was that - imagine if every item you wanted to SELECT something Apple said no take the whole box and drag it - the more normal behavior is allowing people to select especially since you already have the sandwiches on the side to allow for re-ordering.Update 2: Smart Import is NOT smart. How do you take a numbered list and literally put ALL the steps for a whole section under one number - they’re literally numbered. There doesn’t seem to be a winner in this category of app - all have their own quirks and things that require you to fight the app versus the app just recording recipes as advertised - go figure. The Notes app is still the GOAT at this point.Update 3: another example of UI design and produces unintended changes: I realized I was editing part of a recipe that had already been editing and when to hit escape thinking it would take me back a screen. Apparently escape is programmed to discard all changes without any warning. So 30 minutes of work gone.

Crouton is by far the best recipe organizer app on the App Store. I’ve tried other options and they’re either missing an important feature or the interface is cumbersome to use. Crouton has a simple UI that is simple and intuitive. There’s more advanced features within the app but it gives the user the choice to use them. Most importantly, it’s satisfying to use and I can’t say the same for the other options. There’s small details that show there was a lot of thought put into the user experience. The grocery list syncing with the Reminders app feature is a very nice implementation that I’ve never seen before and found very useful. The same applies for the scaling feature, which sounds very simple but can be a huge time saver. The hands-free mode is another very useful feature that I have yet to see anywhere else. It allows you to swipe through the directions in a recipe using blinking expressions and opening your mouth. However, I did notice it was inconsistent at times. While it could use some work, I still found it very impressive, especially in pinch when your hands are covered in food. Overall, I’m very happy with Crouton and I’m excited to see any further improvements. That being said, I’m very satisfied with the current release and am glad to support it.

If I lost my phone, I could find other ways to call or email people, but this app is indispensable! I use this app every single day. I love how I can copy recipes I find online and easily paste them in this app. Also, I just scanned a recipe from a magazine into this app! Who would think it could be possible? I figured out that you have to scan ingredients and steps separately, but the learning curve was low. Also, you have to proofread, because as miraculous as this feature is, it still needs the user to help it out a little. I think there are features on this app I don’t even know how to use, and some day I’ll get around to trying them, but in the meantime I’m going to scan the recipes I use out of my cookbooks and then get rid of them! But a note to the developer: please don’t leave users high and dry like the developer of my other recipe app: I can’t access my recipes on that app any more because they won’t update the app for use in updated iOS. Such a bummer because inputting them was way more work than for Crouton!

I just tipped Devin again, because I love this and smart recipe app like no other. Seriously, I love that I can just “Blink” (iPhone X and later) to go to the next step in a recipe....Basically, Crouton had me at Blink! How MANY times have I needed to go on to the next step—but first needed to wash my hands? Countless times!Crouton has EXACTLY what I was missing—a recipe app with an innovative and intuitive interface that FINALLY gets out of the way. Cooking, managing, adding recipes is so simple, intuitive and easy. In fact, within a few minutes it was clear how to navigate the entire app.I am finally free of the convoluted, old-style database / nested hierarchies I’d resigned myself to with the Paprika recipe app. One of the many smart design details is how recipe FOLDERS are represented in Crouton: They are actually mini, abstracted, 3x5 notecard recipe boxes—without actually being full-on skeuomorphic! And the first “card” of the folder actually has the title from the top level recipe. This is hard to describe, but when you see it, it’s brilliant. iCloud import of my Paprika database was a breeze and export sharing options in Crouton are plentiful. Not only is this a magnificent app, there is a distinct sense that the person who created Crouton truly cares about the app AND it’s users. That is something that rarely comes across as vividly as it does here. This genuine approach, along with active improvements and receptivity to feedback factored into my purchase and support.To say I am impressed is an understatement. Now time to make Christmas dinner!
