Crawl Tactics is a game that combines classic turn-based tactics with rogue-like progression. In Dungeon Mode, explore procedurally generated maps that change every run and face challenging battles. In Quest Mode, develop your town, train mercenaries, and defend against increasingly powerful enemy invasions.
# Game Features #
* A True Tactical RPG Rather Than a Puzzle:
- Crawl Tactics is not a puzzle-like tactics game focused on trick solutions, but a classic, orthodox turn-based strategy RPG designed for fans of traditional SRPGs.
- It offers deep strategic gameplay that considers elevation, unit direction, weather, and terrain.
* Growth, Customization, and Building Your Ideal Party
- Freely customize a wide range of skills, equipment, classes, abilities, and appearances.
- Characters can be developed endlessly through New Game Plus after clearing the base dungeon, and through the Reverse system, which allows class reset even after advancing to higher-tier classes.
- Form your desired party composition, from solo play to full 8-unit battle parties.
* Combat Utilizing Environment and Traps
- Traps and terrain affect both you and your enemies. Set grass on fire, electrify enemies standing in water, and ignite poison clouds.
- Push and throw mechanics allow dynamic interactions by moving objects or units. Knock enemies off cliffs, push them into blade traps, or roll boulders to deal damage.
- Activate cannons and ballista traps to strike enemies from a distance. These traps can also trigger chain reactions for satisfying outcomes.
* Challenging and Ever-Changing Dungeon Mode!
- Dungeon Mode features exploration of dungeons composed of multiple rooms.
- Both the dungeons and their battlefields are procedurally generated, offering varied and challenging experiences.
- Diverse environments such as ruins, caves, catacombs, and forests appear, each with unique climates, monsters, and conditions.
- Each dungeon includes NPCs that may be hostile or friendly, unique mercenaries, valuable items, and distinctive events such as sieges and defense battles.
* Quest Mode Focused on Town Development and Character Growth
- In Quest Mode, you build structures each turn to develop your town and hire multiple mercenaries to assign to quests of your choice.
- Rewards vary depending on the type of quests completed each turn, and you can choose to increase difficulty, allowing for as much grinding as desired.
- Large-scale battles are also available through town defense events against invading monsters that occur every set number of turns.
I picked this up thinking “oh look, an indie tactics game to try during my free time.”Boy was I wrong. You start playing with a beginner’s party. Easy enough. Explore a dungeon, level up, get some equipment. But then you notice you can upgrade characters and their skills. You can even buy them with gold. Next thing you know, you’ve spent three hours beating dungeons. Then your family tries to intervene, saying you’ve been obsessed. You’ve been muttering to yourself about “engineers with rockets” and “dark parties of necromancers.” They beg you to stop playing. A voice cries out “Dad, dad! Come play ball with me!” Play ball? I don’t have a son. You can’t stop me from sending my party into the next dungeon! Finally you beat the game and enter Abyssal Gate mode. Your party hits 150 or even 200 levels. Next thing you know you get a court summons because your wife wants to divorce you since all you do is play this game.5 stars, no contest. Worth the divorce.
Better than FFT?
Cutiepie018465919471940
This game keeps surprising me with new features, enemies, and unit types. If you like FFT you will love this. There is unit classes to choose from with special skills. There is a ton of special gear to get. There is some cool race choices for your characters. There is even large scale battles. If there is one down side, I would say the procedurally generated maps get a little ‘sameie’ feeling over time. I do wish there was the periodic battle over elevation like the waterfall map in FFT, or across a mountain. Otherwise I think I like it more than FFT, and that is a pretty high bar.
Fantastic for mobile
BearlyBearing
This is a well fleshed out dungeon crawler with a decently strategic RPG system akin to FF spanning dozens of abilities and spells across a handful of main classes then splitting into subclasses (reminiscent of D&D) 5/5 When you’re experienced!Despite just about all information being available not everything is incredibly intuitive even in regards to important buildings and mechanics. So I believe there could be a slight overhaul to the tutorial/textbox guides (maybe even a tutorial “quest” with a item reward incentive or your first hire being the saved tutor)Leaving this lower down as it’s simply a “problem” fixed with playtime but I feel like it can deter some people - I write this only having experienced maybe 40%~60% of the games content so far
Great game but report a bug
Firelping
The missile pod skill does not work properly. It is a cool skill, please fix it awesome devs! Edit: I leveled up the skill to lv3 (not sure whether this is a problem), what happened: the rocket launched and I saw the rocket hit the enemy. The enemy took no damage but the pod took all the damage and destroyed itself. I tested it today and the issue still existed.
Developer Response
Oh my god, Sorry for not noticing it. It will be fixed in the next update.
Added a feature to save difficulty settings.
Bug fix: Fixed a bug where a previously opened building window would reopen when pressing a character portrait after closing a building window in town.
UI: XP weight increases after a unit acts are now displayed in the log.
