Anybody else notice how almost every "positive" review is eerily similar to the next? Very telling when you'd rather spend money blatantly lying about your "new and updated" product rather than fixing the problems or doing it right the first time. Read the negative reviews and it couldn't be MORE obvious what the problems are. Almost every review has the exact same issues, regardless of so-called "app update". Again, another nod to Discovery Channel for customer care and satisfaction. Thanks Discovery Channel Networks! This app is SO bad that I truly believe that if the companies making the choice to run ads on this app (and there are only 5) saw how POORLY Discovery Channel ran their ads, they would pull them. It's shameful and extremely unprofessional. Nobody is breaking new ground here. Discovery Channel is hardly the first network to create/support an "on-demand video" app, although they may literally be THE WORST, so it should be very easy to follow in the footsteps other successful networks have taken. This app reminds me of one made by somebody over the weekend. Take away the Discovery Channel content and and it becomes even more pathetic. It's absolutely shameful and Discovery Networks should be embarrassed to provide their hugely loyal customers with this garbage. Why even bother, Discovery?
Ads cause too many issues
Quackemi
Yes I know. They just have the same number of ads as they do in the live feed. But in the live feed on Comcast I can skip forward 30 seconds at a time and skip the ads. On this app there is no way to skip anything. And Discovery has so many ads in their programs that half the time I've lost interest in the program or have forgotten what I'm watching anyway by the time a three and a half minute stretch of ads is done. Also, if you try to go back to a program you were watching a few days ago and use the scrub bar, it will always stop on an ad. And if you were wrong about the time stamp you left off at, you may have to watch multiple ads to get back to the spot you wanted. It took me nearly 10 minutes to get to the right spot in Deadliest Catch today because I had to wait for an ad every time I let go of the scrubber. App needs work, and since I have to pay for a cable subscription to see the shows, I'm not getting it for free and I expect to be able to skip the ads.*edit: watched July 4th Deadliest Catch special. 29 ads!
NEAR USELESS -APPLE TV content being diminished
PookieWonk
RE APPLE TV-So until recently all the channels were in one main app -and all the Discovery related channels were included. I was excited enough about this to use it as a "pro" when I was recently considering switching cable/internet provider. I switched to PlayStation Vue (a great move anyway-I love PSVUE) and enjoyed so much having access to Amer Hero and Destination Amer content at a time that was convenient for me. Then all the channels got divided and put in their own (Apple TV) apps-BUT NOT REALLY-although several of their channels have apps (with very few "heard of" cable provider options, I might add) there is now absolutely no option to view AH or DA content on Apple TV (mirroring maybe- but a hassle and not as reliable). WHY WOULD THEY MINIMIZE THEIR SERVICE AND CALL IT A POSITIVE MOVE? I have tried to contact customer support just to see if maybe it's a WIP and an app for these two channels would be forthcoming but I can get no response. So -until I can watch ALL their channels equally (channels I am still paying the same amount for in my tv package) I am giving all of the discovery related apps 2 stars.

Unreliable. Works tonight, but last night it crashed every time I opened it. When you stop a show before it's over (because there is a life out there...), when you restart it, even though you use the resume button, it starts you near the beginning again. It takes forever to forward it to where you left off because of all the commercials it makes you go through before you can finally find where you left off. And the amount and length of commercials you are forced to let it run through is ridiculous. About 3 minutes of twiddling your thumbs, so I turn the volume down and do other things until the show restarts. And am I wrong in saying you used to be able to ff through the commercials? If so, not anymore. I understand the need for commercials to bring them revenue, but there are just too many, and worse, too long. I never watch any commercials anywhere, I find other things to do until they are over. The app should be called "Discovery Commercials that Go and Go and Go."
