Adam Jerrett

(he/him)

Having studied web design and computer science at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, Adam now describes himself as a game designer who wants to make the world a better place. Through practice-based research, he researches, designs and creates an array of serious games for educational and activist purposes to bring light to a variety of "wicked problems" in society. After completing his Masters in Multimedia in South Africa, he completed his PhD in Creative Technologies at the University of Portsmouth, where he is currently teaching Game Design/Programming.

With a particular interest in pervasive games, a type of game played in real-life, Adam is intrigued about how games can break out of their “magic circles” to truly affect the lives of their players. He is also interested in the importance of values in games, and the use of specific values in game design. To this end, he developed What We Take With Us (https://whatwetakewith.us/), a wellbeing game inspired by his experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
