Adam Parker

PhD Candidate in Classical Studies, The Open University

I studied BA (hons) Ancient History and Archaeology, and then MA Rome & Its Neighbours at the University of Leicester. I am an Associate Collections Curator at York Museums Trust and am undertaking my PhD in Classical studies at the Open University, researching the archaeology of magic in Roman Britain.

My wider research focuses on material culture generally, and the materiality of magic specifically. I have particular interest in the apotropaic use of sexual imagery in the ancient world, the use of Whitby jet across time, and ephemerality, sensory and phenomenological approaches. I also have a broad interest in folklore and contemporary archaeological assemblages.
