Ailish Kate Brassil

Ailish Kate Brassil is a PhD student in English Literature at University College Cork. She completed her Masters in Children’s and Young Adult Literature in 2021 at Dublin City University. Ailish’s research is on girlhood fictions and domestic horror in Rebecca (1938), Carrie (1978), Matilda (1988), and Coraline (2002). She has three upcoming chapters in different edited collections. One is on The Vampire Diaries, one on unconventional male heroes looking at Captain Jack Sparrow and the Mad Hatter, and the last one is on animated horror in Coraline (2009) and Monster House (2006). Her paper on Erin Brockovich (2000) was presented at the Southwest Popular / American Culture Association conference in Albuquerque. Ailish’s interests vary from the gothic and all things spooky to children’s literature and popular culture.
