Aleida Borges

Dr Aleida Borges is a lecturer in Politics & Inequality at the African Leadership Centre, King's College London. Her research offers critical perspectives at the intersection of politics, gender, youth and decoloniality to examine the multifaceted dimensions of inequality within political, social, and organisational contexts in Africa, Latin America and Europe. She is a jurist by training, specialising in International Public Law (Human Rights). Aleida is the convenor of the African Politics specialist group, and an elected trustee at the Political Studies Association (PSA UK).

Aleida is the co-editor of Pandemic Response and the Cost of Lockdowns: Global Debates from Humanities and Social Sciences (Routledge) and Covid-19 Restrictions in the Global South: Accelerating Inequalities, Worsening Human Rights (Bloomsbury - forthcoming); and has authored several reports, peer-reviewed book-chapters and article publications in English and Portuguese, and regularly serves as country expert for Portuguese-Speaking countries for V-DEM, Open Government Partnership (OGP), Afrobarometer and the World Bank.
