Alexander Michael Tjahjadi is a PhD student in Public Finance at the prestigious Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE), P.R.China and an ASEAN-China Young Leader Scholar. His research examines the path dependency of ASEAN development through a comparative lens with China’s human capital accumulation. A high-achieving graduate, he earned his Bachelor’s in Economics from Universitas Gadjah Mada as the fastest in his cohort and holds two master's degrees: a Master of Public Policy and Management from Monash University Indonesia, where he focused on skill mismatch and migration, and a Master’s in Philosophy from STF Driyarkara, where he focused on epistemology critique on economics.

Michael is also Senior Economist at AMANA Solutions. In this role, he oversaw and led a team of economists, ensuring the robust quality of the firm's research outputs. At AMANA Solutions, Michael contributed to several high-impact engagements. He supported the Social Return on Investment (SROI) portal for Perlinsos as part of the Banyuwangi pilot project, contributed to an Urban Renewal Project with the Jakarta Provincial Government, delivered training programs for the Ministry of Finance, and led research examining the economic and social effects of data centers.

Professionally, Michael bridges research, policy, and practice. He has significant government experience, having served as a Junior Advisor at Indonesia’s National Economic Council, where he analyzed major initiatives like the universal school lunch program, and as an Assistant to the Special Staff of the President Indonesia on inclusion. Furthermore, he has built a robust track record as a research analyst and consultant for leading institutions such as the World Bank, J-PAL Southeast Asia, Think Policy, Article 33, Puskapa Universitas Indonesia and Prospera, working on diverse projects spanning education, health, governance, and gender.
