Andrew Allen

Dr Andrew Allen is a Clinical Psychologist and Board-Approved Supervisor registered with the Psychology Board of Australia. He has extensive experience delivering psychological interventions across public and private sectors, with a particular focus on complex mental health presentations and personality disorders. As a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Andrew teaches and coordinates postgraduate subjects including schema therapy, psychopathology, ethics, and chronic disease management. He plays a key role in supervising provisional psychologists and supporting early career development through competency-based supervision and reflective practice.

Andrew’s research centres on the psychological mechanisms underpinning maladaptive behaviours and personality pathology, including early maladaptive schemas, metacognitive processes, and desire-related cognitions. He is particularly interested in how schema therapy can be applied to address entrenched patterns in personality disorders and related difficulties. His work also explores the intersection between psychological needs, resilience, and wellbeing, with broader research interests spanning human sexuality, sexual dysfunctions, and harmful sexual behaviours. Andrew has supervised over 40 student research projects and remains committed to mentoring future clinicians and researchers.
