Director of the Obi-Rakhmat rock-shelter (Uzbekistan) and Strashnaya cave (Altay, Russia) projects. I directed for 30 years archeological missions mostly in Central Asia (Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran) but in Siberia, Southern Europe, and Vietnam as well.

My research focuses on the different aspects of human evolution and lithic technologies. For many years I’m interested in Middle Paleolithic time in Central Asia, especially in origin and dispersal of technological innovations and their connections to different human populations.
