Angelos Synapis

I am an Assistant Professor of Accounting and Finance at the Centre for Resilient Business and Society (CRBS), Coventry University. I hold a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Glasgow and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Before joining Coventry, I held positions at the University of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde, and I worked as a financial accountant prior to entering academia.

My research is quantitative, using firm-level panel data and quasi-experimental designs. I work on corporate finance, corporate governance, financial accounting, sustainable accounting and finance, and the financial consequences of climate risk and regulation. My work has been published in journals, including the British Accounting Review, Economics Letters, and the Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting. It has also attracted funding from major bodies, including the British Academy, the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Research England, the Committee for Departments of Accounting and Finance (CDAF), and the Ramón Areces Foundation.

My research has been featured in media outlets such as the Columbia Law School's Blue Sky Blog, the Duke Financial Economics Center's FinReg Blog, the Oxford Business Law Blog, The Conversation, Forbes, and Yahoo Finance. My work has been presented at international conferences, including those of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) and the Financial Management Association (FMA), as well as in practitioner settings, such as expert-call seminars hosted by Jefferies for institutional investors.

I teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in accounting and finance, including Corporate Financial Management, Financial Accounting, and Investment Analysis. I also supervise research at undergraduate, MSc, and doctoral level. I serve as an Associate Editor for Cogent Economics & Finance and as an ad hoc reviewer for journals including Abacus, the European Journal of Finance, and the International Review of Financial Analysis.
