Ann M. Ishimaru

Dr. Ann M. Ishimaru is the Killinger Endowed Chair and Professor of Educational Foundations, Leadership, and Policy at the College of Education at the University of Washington. Her scholarship focuses on cultivating the leadership and solidarities of educators and racially minoritized youth, families and communities to transform P-12 education. She also directs the Just Educational Leadership Institute and is the Faculty Research Director of the Leadership for Learning EdD program, where she supports leaders and collaboratives in learning to codesign humanizing educational systems, data literacies, relationalities and futures. Dr. Ishimaru earned her doctorate at Harvard Graduate School of Education, her masters at Stanford University School of Education, and her first book, Just Schools: Building Equitable Collaborations with Families and Communities, was published by Teachers College Press in 2020. She is currently completing her latest book project, with Dr. Decoteau Irby and Dr. Terrance Green, "The Work” of Equity Leadership for Justice and Systems Change, which will be published in 2025.
