Avril Keating

I am a Professor of Youth Studies at UCL Institute of Education, where I work in the Department of Education, Practice and Society. I am also the Director of the Centre for Global Youth, which I established in 2017.

My current research focuses on young people in coastal towns in England, and I am the PI for Coastal Youth Life Chances project, which has been fundedby the ESRC from January 2023 - December 2025. This project is a mixed method study that examines the ways in which growing up in a coastal town can impact on young people’s life chances; that is, their likelihood of having good outcomes in adulthood in terms of education, work, housing, and health and wellbeing.
