Cansu Gorgun

I am a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the University of Genoa, Italy, where I study how cells communicate during tissue repair through extracellular vesicles (EVs). I completed my PhD at the University of Genoa, focusing on mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)-derived EVs for bone regeneration, before undertaking a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Dublin, Ireland. There, I investigated how macrophage metabolism shapes extracellular vesicle function and regenerative responses.

My research explores how immune and stromal cells coordinate tissue regeneration through extracellular vesicles and secreted factors (the secretome). I am particularly interested in understanding how cell-to-cell communication regulates bone repair, ageing, and inflammation, and how these mechanisms can be harnessed to develop new regenerative therapies. More recently, my work has also focused on the role of circadian rhythms in bone biology and how biological timing may influence skeletal health and regeneration.
