Charlie Shackleton

Charlie is a full-time research professor in the department of Environmental Science at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa, where he has been for the last 24 years. He occupies a nationally-funded research chair in “Interdisciplinary Science in Land and Natural Resource Use for Sustainable Livelihoods”. Charlie’s research focuses on three inter- and trans-disciplinary domains, the first being natural resource ecology and use in rural livelihoods, the second being urban forestry, greening and sustainability and the third being food security with an emphasis on the contribution of wild foods. He has over 320 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 11 edited books. He is an associate editor or on the board of several leading journals. He has supervised over 100 PhD and Masters students.
