Claudia Eggart

Dr Claudia Eggart is a social anthropologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Manchester, research positions at the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS, Berlin), and the Leibniz Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO, Berlin), as well as fellowships at the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS, Oxford), the Centre for the History of Emotions (Tampere), New Europe College (NEC, Bucharest), and the University of Fribourg.

Her research traces how everyday economies, infrastructure, and emotion intersect in lived experiences of geopolitics—from border and customs regimes to market mobilities and logistical life. Through ethnography, oral history, and discourse analysis, her work explores the history and the volumetric social live of spatial metaphors such as containers, hubs, nodes, corridors and chokepoints to develop a grounded understanding of how shifting global orders materialize in everyday life. From 2025-26 Claudia hold a first book grant from the Independent Social Research Foundation (ISRF) to work on her monograph: Lived Geopolitics: Re-scaling Market Infrastructures from Soviet Collapse to Backlash Imperialism
