Clelia Mulà

For my Master's degree, I studied insects' aposematism and social learning in birds. For my doctoral research, I am investigating the role of macroalgae as nurseries for juvenile tropical reef fishes. I aim to test whether these often-overlooked habitats significantly contribute to the replenishment of tropical reef fish populations. My research interests lie in understanding what types of ecological interaction underpin the ecosystem functioning in tropical shallow water, focusing on the complexity of the seascape rather than on single habitats. Ultimately, my overarching goal is to promote informed management and conservation of the marine ecosystems, with a particular focus on tropical environments.

I have experience working as a laboratory assistant in the Evolution, Conservation and Genomics Research Unit at the University of Helsinki and as a Fisheries observer ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas).
