David Jones

After a successful military career, David retired early to pursue business interests during which time he nurtured longstanding interests in marine conservation, underwater photography, film making, writing and public engagement. He has been dedicated to tackling critical marine conservation and protection issues since 2010, particularly marine plastic pollution.
David was an adviser on science and sustainability to the Plastic Ocean Foundation for six years, and was involved in the production of the award winning film 'A Plastic Ocean', the first feature length documentary to address the ocean plastic pollution issue. He is currently a sessional teaching fellow at the University of Portsmouth and the Founder and CEO of 'Just One Ocean', a marine conservation charity committed to preserving ocean ecosystems and biodiversity for future generations through science education and communication.
As a public speaker, David has had the privilege of addressing diverse audiences at major global events, raising awareness about ocean conservation and the urgent need for collective action. He firmly believe that engaging the public is crucial to solving many of the world's environmental and societal challenges.
David has a MSc in Coastal and Marine Resource Management and a PhD from the School of the Environment and Life Sciences at the University of Portsmouth. His research background is predominantly in the areas of coastal and marine ecology, plastic pollution and public engagement.
