David Vaile

David is former stream lead for Surveillance and Data Protection at the Allens Hub for Technology, Law and Innovation at UNSW Faculty of Law and Justice, former executive director of Cyberspace Law and Policy Centre, and former co-convenor of the Cyberspace Law and Policy Community at the same faculty. He has taught AI, data and cyberspace law there and elsewhere, as well as a recent postgrad Data and Ethics course for the UNSW School of Business. Key Researcher at Data to Decisions Cooperative Research Centre (D2DCRC) during its operations 2014-2019.

David has held board or committee roles at organisations including the Australian Privacy Foundation, Internet Australia policy committee, AMSRO (now ADIA) Privacy Code Compliance Committee, NSW Law Society privacy and data committee, and AUSTRAC's privacy consultative committee, as well roles in community advocacy organisations and legal centres, and a health research ethics committee.
