Denis Odlin

am a lecturer in International Business. Because of my previous industry experience in the high-technology sector, I am interested in small firm internationalization - in particular how small firms compete.

My career progression has been in a different sequence to many academics – first industry experience in sales and marketing, then teaching, academic administration, leading to PhD and research. I worked initially in Australia with Hewlett-Packard; I later held Asia-based regional and global marketing management roles in high-tech firms Tandem Computers, Synoptics Networks and Accton Technology. In all, I spent fifteen years living and working in Asia.

I spent four years as a full-time Lecturer at Hong Kong Polytechnic University where I led a small teaching unit. Later in New Zealand, after completing my PhD, I worked as a Professional Teaching Fellow at the University of Auckland Graduate School of Management, teaching masters courses in international business and strategy. I then moved to Auckland University of Technology as a lecturer in international business and strategy to further develop my research programme. I returned to the University of Auckland in 2022.
