Elizabeth A. Phelps

Elizabeth A. Phelps is the Pershing Square Professor of Human Neuroscience at Harvard University. She received her PhD from Princeton University and previously served on the faculty of Yale University and New York University. Her laboratory has earned widespread acclaim for its groundbreaking research on how the human brain processes emotion, particularly as it relates to learning, memory, and decision making. Dr. Phelps is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Society for Experimental Psychology. Her honors include the William James Award from the Association for Psychological Science, the George A. Miller Prize from the Cognitive Neuroscience Society, the Goldman-Rakic Prize from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Social and Affective Neuroscience Society, and the Mentor Award from the Association for Psychological Science. She was a founding board member of the International Society for Neuroethics and has served as president of the Association for Psychological Science, the Society for Neuroeconomics, and the Society for Affective and Social Neuroscience.
