Emma Ball

Dr Emma Ball is a Senior Research Associate in Safeguarding and Violence Prevention at Manchester Metropolitan University. She has led qualitative analysis on national projects across England and Wales researching effectiveness of multi-agency safeguarding, focussing on several thematic areas such as domestic abuse, child exploitation, and whole safeguarding systems. As such, Emma has a strong working relationship with Safeguarding Partnerships within England and Regional Safeguarding Boards in Wales, who have supported different research projects and are generally keen to be involved with learning activities which can promote positive change and strengthen practice. Emma has led the development of the 5-Domain National Multi-agency Safeguarding Performance Framework in Wales , which takes a multi-layered approach to data metrics focussing on data utilisation and coherence of impact, and this is being piloted across regional safeguarding boards. Emma has also led on the development of the Collective Safeguarding Responsibility Model: 12Cs and The Recommendation iFramework . The frameworks aim to improve consistency and assurance of effectiveness within safeguarding. Both frameworks also have accompanying practice guidance which has been developed with stakeholders, to support operationalisation of research evidence into practice. As a former social worker and practitioner, Emma is passionate about improving outcomes for individuals and families within the safeguarding system.
