Emma Thomas is Matthew Flinders Professor of Psychology at Flinders University, Australia. Her work sits at the nexus of social and political psychology and focusses on understanding when, why and how people commit to engaging in action to bring about social change for disadvantaged groups in society. Her research (n > 70 papers) uses experimental, longitudinal and “big” data analytic methods to address the role that social identities, emotions, norms and beliefs play in promoting, and sustaining, engagement in action for social change. She has been funded via multiple grants from the Australian Research Council, non-governmental and governmental organizations.
