Gustavo E. Fischman

Gustavo E. Fischman is a professor of educational policy and comparative education and serves as the director of scholarly communication at the Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation at Arizona State University. He is also a Senior Global Futures Scholar at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory (ASU). Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he is a first-generation college graduate. He earned his BA in Education from the University of Buenos Aires and completed his MA and Ph.D. degrees in social sciences and comparative education at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Fischman is an internationally recognized scholar in comparative education and critical policy studies. His research focuses on global citizenship education, Open Science, and scholarly communications. Currently, he is working on two projects investigating how and to what extent partisan cueing influences public beliefs about good teaching practices and higher education’s response to the planetary and political crisis. Dr. Fischman has authored over 200 academic publications, as well as numerous commentaries and interviews. He has been a visiting scholar at several graduate programs across Europe and Latin America. He has received numerous awards and honors, including a New Century Fulbright Scholar Award (2010), the Research to Practice Award from the Research Use SIG-AERA, and the Excellence in Research Award for Global Impact. In addition, he is a fellow of the National Education Policy Center (2010), the International Academy of Education (2013); and the American Educational Research Association (2015). He was also appointed twice to the W. T. Fulbright Senior Scholar roster (2017-2020 and 2025-2028). In addition to serving on various editorial boards, he is the co-editor-in-chief of AERA Open and a consulting editor for Education Review and Education Policy Analysis Archives.
