Hans Pols is currently researching the history of medicine in the Dutch East Indies and Indonesia. In particular, he focuses on the role of physicians and medical students in political, social, and cultural movements. He has also conducted research on psychiatry in the Dutch East Indies and Indonesia; the conceptualisation of trauma during World War II; and the history of the mental hygiene and mental health movements. He is currently involved in a project on the future of mental heatlh care in Indonesia.
