Henri Chevalier

Henri Chevalier is a PhD student in Social and Ecological Sustainability at the University of Waterloo (Canada), where his doctoral research examines how structural growth imperatives operate within the Canadian economy and how they can be mitigated through post-growth policy pathways. His research maps national-scale mechanisms of growth dependence, conducts sectoral and institutional case studies in mining, real estate/construction, and agribusiness in Ontario and Québec, and develops a Canada-specific policy roadmap to reduce growth dependence while safeguarding wellbeing within planetary boundaries.

Henri holds an M.Sc. in Social Innovation Management from HEC Montréal and a Bachelor in Environmental Studies from York University. He has published peer-reviewed research in ecological economics, social metabolism and political economy, including work on fixed capital, growth imperatives, aviation, rationing, and sufficiency.

Professionally, he is a sustainable mobility advisor at Équiterre (largest environmental NGO in Quebec), where he leads research on electric mobility and sufficiency. He plays a central research role in Vélovolt, a large-scale e-bike trial program in Québec, and serves as a key research and policy contributor to the Canadian Electric School Bus Alliance (CESBA), authoring national reports and recommendations.
