Holly Joseph

Holly Joseph is a Professor of Language and Literacy Development at the Institute of Education, University of Reading. She is also Director of the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism (CeLM). Her research interests lie in reading development and difficulties, early language and literacy, family literacy, neurodiversity, multilingual language development and the impact of social inequalities on literacy. She completed her doctorate in children’s eye movements during reading at the University of Durham in 2008. She then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oxford for five years, investigating reading behaviour in children with comprehension difficulties. Since then, she has looked at reading development in a broad range of children with different neurodevelopmental conditions, at different ages, with different languages, and in different circumstances. All of her research is rooted in social justice and the need to understand better how we can support all children to reach their potential.
