Irene A Reid

Irene A Reid is a Lecturer in Sociology of Sport at the University of Stirling.

Irene's undergraduate degree was in Human Movement Studies (Dunfermline College of Physical Education, Edinburgh); she has an MA in Sociology of Sport (Queen's University, Kingston, Canada) and a PhD (University of Stirling).

Prior to moving into the University sector Irene worked in sports development and administration in Scotland with Perth and Kinross District Council and the Scottish Sports Council. She also taught Physical Education in the secondary school and further education sector.

Irene's research interests are located in the critical analysis of sport as a social and cultural practice. Her work concentrates on sport, nationalism and cultural identity and media representations of identity through sport. Her research focuses on the relationship between sport and nationhood particularly, in Scotland. A secondary area of research interest concerns sport and gender.
