James Lorenz

I am currently a Lecturer in Theology and Philosophy of Religion at York St John University. My research is situated at the intersections of the philosophy of religion, theology, and the arts. My first book, The Theological Power of Film, was published by Routledge in 2024.

I joined York St John in 2021 after completing a DPhil (PhD) in Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford. My doctoral thesis engaged in the interdisciplinary study of philosophy, theology, and film. I also hold a Masters degree (MSt) and a BA (Hons) in Theology and Religion (both from the University of Oxford), which were awarded in 2017 and 2015 respectively.
