I am currently the staff tutor at the Open University school of creative industries in FASS.

Previously I was a lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland completing a practice-based PhD in Mobile Journalism in 2021. Over my 10+ years in higher education I have been a course leader for BA Journalism and Sports Journalism and have also completed a post graduate certificate in Teaching and Learning while becoming a Senior HEA fellow.

I have presented my research in digital media and mobile journalism at the UK Media Education Summit, The World Journalism Education Conference, MECCSA and at Association for Journalism Education events.

Prior to and during my time in academia I have worked for regional and national broadcast and digital media outlets as as a TV reporter and presenter with outlets in America, India, Iraq, Ireland and across the UK and also present a sports podcast called Dr James's One Cap Wonders.
