Jenny Hall

Jen is an Associate Professor in Tourism, Events and Environmental Justice at York Business School, York St John University. As a cultural geographer, she conducts interdisciplinary research on social and ecological justice across tourism, leisure, events, heritage, and sport. She has published widely on intersectional inequalities in adventure and outdoor leisure, with research that has influenced policy within UK mountaineering organisations.

Her current work focuses on tourism governance, urban heritage, ecological justice, and regenerative tourism, and she is currently collaborating with the North York Moors National Park on a five-year project examining climate crisis responses through public engagement and conservation programmes. This includes research on dark sky festivals as regenerative leisure practices, investigating how rural and urban initiatives foster ecological awareness, well-being, and behavioural change related to light pollution.

She is a Fellow and Secretary of the Geographies of Leisure and Tourism Research Group at the Royal Geographical Society and brings extensive professional experience in public-sector cultural regeneration, festivals, and venue leadership. She is a passionate mountaineer and a member of her local mountain rescue team.
