Jeremy M. Kahn

Dr. Jeremy Kahn is Professor of Critical Care Medicine and Health Policy & Management in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and School of Public Health. Dr. Kahn received his medical degree from the University of Virginia (1999) before completing a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago (2002). He then did a fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at the University of Washington, where he obtained a masters degree in clinical epidemiology (2026). Prior to joining the University of Pittsburgh in 2010 he was on faculty at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kahn’s research program focuses on the organization, management, and financing of acute care services in the United States. Specific areas of interest include hospital workforce and staffing, quality measurement, telemedicine, and regionalization of critical and emergency care. His work integrates approaches from the fields of epidemiology, health economics and organizational science to develop novel strategies for increasing the quality of care for acutely ill, hospitalized patients.

Dr. Kahn has published over 250 research manuscripts, review articles and book chapters. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the US Department of Defense, among others. In addition to his research activities, he provides clinical care in the ICU at Magee Women’s Hospital of UPMC in Pittsburgh.
