Jessica Gallagher

Jessica works as a Senior Lecturer at Birmingham City University, specialising in Criminal Justice. Her research focuses on the experience of prisoners and the prison environment, specifically on self-harm and suicide. Rather than attribute these to a side effect of mental health, her research works on continuing the conversation on the role that the prison environment plays in being causative of self-harm and suicide. this research focuses on linking penology and psychology and forming new policy ideas. Her new forms of research focus on the effect of sentencing on the prison crisis, as well as the role of public opinion on sentencing.
