Joanne Atkinson

I am a Principal Lecturer and Postgraduate Course Director at Portsmouth Law School. I am also a qualified solicitor with expertise in corporate and commercial law. My research looks at the regulation of consumer credit.

I gained an LL.B. at the University of Nottingham before finishing the LPC at the College of Law in Chester. I become a qualified solicitor in 1999 before joining the School of Law on a permanent basis in 2011.

I trained as a solicitor in a private practice, then joined Zurich Financial Services in-house legal department where I worked across new business initiatives, contract drafting, consumer law, the resolution of commercial disputes and intellectual property, and regulatory compliance. I was then appointed Company Secretary for Zurich's UK general insurance business in 2003.

Currently, I'm responsible for the School of Law's careers development programme, after joining Porstmouth in 2011. I previously lectured at the University of Law in London.
