Dr. Trump research interests include observation studies of active galaxies: that is, galaxies with an accreting supermassive black hole. Co-evolving growth of black holes and galaxies: how do galaxies feed their black holes, and how do black holes influence star formation in their host galaxies. Time-domain monitoring of black hole accretion to echo map the structure of matter just above the black hole. Uses telescopes spanning the electromagnetic spectrum: observation in X-rays (Chandra, XMM-Newton), ultraviolet (GALEX), optical (Hubble, SDSS, Keck, Subaru, Magellan, LCO), infrared (Spitzer, Herschel) and radio (VLA) light.
