Karla Berrens

karla berrens is an interdisciplinary researcher working between urban geography, sociology and the senses and sound art. She is a tenure-track lecturer at the Sociology department, a researcher in CRIT-UB group (Creativity, Innovation and Urban Transformation), ascribed to POLIS research center: Art, City and Society (CR-Polis-UB) and a member of the Aural Diversity research network. Karla is also a member of two GIDASRES and GID-CIVITAS.

Her research has two directions, firstly one on urban sensory studies, approaching the city through interdisciplinary lenses. She is a specialist in hybrid research methodologies and sensory studies, with a particular focus on space, place, and the cartographies of the senses. The second direction in karla’s research is sociology of education, with a special interest in diversity in learning and universal learning design.
