Katy Kuhrt

Katy is a specialist registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, who has recently completed her PhD which is focused on evaluation of point-of-care tests for detection of acute maternal compromise in pregnant women in Sierra Leone. The work includes assessment of the feasibility of novel whole blood point of care tests for placental growth factor and creatinine, as well as a bedside blood pressure and heart rate monitor which calculates shock index as a marker of early deterioration in bleeding and septic women.

She has also been involved in community engagement work in Sierra Leone, including co-development and delivery of Policy Labs in Sierra Leone and Zambia, and co-creation, and pop-up community cinema screenings of a docu-film ‘Nema’s Choice’ to raise Pre-eclampsia awareness amongst women and their families.

She is now working as a Co-Investigator on CRADLE-B (Community-based Research for Assessment, Detection and management of hypertension after pregnancy for LifetimE Benefit) which is a 5-year NIHR Funded programme of work taking place across Sierra Leone, South Africa and Zambia.
