Kelsey O'Connor

Kelsey J O’Connor is a Senior Researcher in the Economics of Well-being at STATEC Research, a part of the official statistical office of Luxembourg. He serves as Associate Editor (economics) for the Journal of Happiness Studies, on the Executive Board of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS), and on the Advisory Panel for University of Birmingham’s Centre for Urban Well-being.

His research focuses on assessing both the causes and consequences of subjective well-being (or happiness), with the goal of contributing to a redefinition of progress in national discourse. To this end, he cohosts an online seminar and annual workshop on measuring progress at STATEC Research. His work appears in books and journals such as the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Resources Policy, Economics and Human Biology, Oxford Economic Papers, PLoS ONE, and Kyklos.

He has a PhD in economics from the University of Southern California, is a Research Fellow with the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA), a Senior Research Associate in the School of Economics at the University of Johannesburg, and a Member of the World Wellbeing Panel.
