Kerryn Brent

Kerryn Brent is social research scientist at CSIRO. Kerryn researches on questions of governance of emerging climate intervention technologies. These are technologies to remove carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere (carbon dioxide removal) and reflect sunlight (solar radiation management). Her research seeks to understand how these technologies can be developed responsibly, realizing climate change benefits while minimizing negative environmental and social impacts.

Kerryn's background is in domestic and international law. In 2017, Kerryn was awarded her doctoral thesis from the University of Tasmania. Her thesis examined what role customary international law might play in governing solar radiation management geoengineering. Since then, Kerryn has published in leading national and international journals on the governance of carbon dioxide removal and solar radiation management technologies.
