Kristina Murphy received her PhD in Psychology in 2002 from the Australian National University. She is a former Australian Research Council Future Fellow (2019-2023) and current Professor of Criminology at the Griffith Criminology Institute and School of Criminology & Criminal Justice at Griffith University. She is also a Fellow of the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Over the past twenty five years Kristina has led an innovative program of research that advances our understanding of how people respond to authorities and their rules and laws. As a world-leading expert in this area, Kristina's research integrates psychological, criminological and socio-legal theories to better understand why people trust authorities, and why they defy or comply with authorities and their rules and regulations. Kristina is recognised both nationally and internationally for her research on procedural justice, and has been awarded numerous research grants to pursue her research in this area. Kristina's current research centres on the role of justice-based grievances in promulgating radicalisation and conspiracy-fuelled extremism.
