Layla Tiseo

Layla Tiseo is a PhD candidate in Anthropology whose work focuses on experimental archaeology and the study of material culture, particularly the use of mineral pigments in artistic contexts. She holds a Master of Science in Experimental Archaeology and Material Culture from University College Dublin (First Class Honours, scholarship recipient), where she carried out laboratory and field-based experiments on Etruscan fresco techniques, alongside a BA in classical archaeology and antiquity with a minor in anthropology from Concordia University.​​

Her current research with the Université de Montréal follows the use of ochre in the Epigravettian culture at the site of Arene Candide in Liguria, Italy. By examining ochre-traced broken pebbles found in funerary contexts, her research explores how artistic practices, technical choices, and material interactions shape and reflect social, cultural, and environmental dynamics. She has extensive field experience on international excavation projects in Ireland, Greece and Italy, and has served as a teaching assistant and student representative in archaeology for her respective universities.
