Lea Frermann is a senior lecturer and DECRA fellow in Natural Language Processing at the University of Melbourne. Her research focuses on the the mechanisms that underlie complex communication between humans, or between humans and machines. Her methods combine approaches from machine learning and AI, cognitive science and sociology.
In past roles, she has worked as an applied scientist for Amazon and as a researcher at the University of Edinburgh. Her work has been featured in the BBC, Scientific American and more.
