Lewis Blackburn

I'm an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellow and have a PhD iCase Award funded in collaboration with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL).

My current research interests involve:

- development of zirconolite ceramics for plutonium immobilisation;

- supporting UK decommissioning activities through deployment of thermal treatment technologies;

- performance testing of advanced nuclear waste materials for geological disposal;

- novel sintering techniques such as Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP);

- chemical durability of actinide-containing ceramic wasteforms;

- deployment of Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) for nuclear applications;

- X-ray absorption spectroscopy in support of nuclear waste managament
