Dr Liezille J. Jacobs is an associate professor in the Psychology Department at Rhodes University, South Africa, and a visiting scholar at Stanford University's Department of Psychiatry. She holds a PhD from Stellenbosch University and was a fellow in the Future Professors Programme (2021-2022).
In 2024, Professor Jacobs published her first book, Rocklands: On Becoming the First Generation of Black Psychologists in Post-Apartheid South Africa. Her teaching focuses on social and critical health psychology, while her research explores addiction, the intersections of gender, race, class, identity, sexuality, feminist epistemologies, and cyberpsychology. She also examines the human-technology relationship.
With over 30 peer-reviewed articles, multiple book chapters, and one book, Prof. Jacobs has earned notable recognition, including awards from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust. She chaired the National Department of Health’s Alcohol Guidelines and served on the NRF review committees.
