Lisa Biggs, Ph.D., is a performance h Africana Studies scholar and theatre- maker who currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Africana Studies/Rites and Reason Theatre at Brown University. Biggs researches the role of the arts in movements for justice, including theatre for women incarcerated in the U.S and in South Africa. She earned her Ph.D. in Performance Studies at Northwestern University. Recent publications can be found in Theatre Survey, Solo/Black/Woman: Scripts, Interviews, Essays and in Black Acting Methods. Her first book, The Healing Stage: Black Women, Incarceration, and the Art of Transformation (2022), investigates the healing impact of theatre programs for incarcerated women.
